Terrace Beam Replacement & Heritage Balcony Restoration – Forest Lodge, Sydney
Helitec Structural Services recently completed a full terrace beam replacement and balcony restoration in Forest Lodge, Sydney, to a traditional 6-metre-wide heritage terrace.
The existing balcony required complete replacement, including the main structural timber beam, balcony flooring and associated decorative elements. Therefore, our team carried out all works from our own scaffold. As a result, we completed the restoration safely and efficiently while maintaining the original heritage detailing.
Next, we installed a new hardwood terrace balcony beam to replace the deteriorated original structural member. Afterwards, we rebuilt the balcony with new hardwood flooring.
Our team carefully removed, retained and reinstated the original cast-iron balustrade.
One of the key features was the reconstruction of the ornate dentil detailing across the front of the balcony. Importantly, these decorative elements form part of the original terrace façade. We replicated the detailing to maintain the building’s traditional appearance.
In addition, the balcony works included careful removal and reinstatement of the existing POA and associated balcony components.
Terrace Beam Replacement in Sydney
Timber beams to older Sydney terraces are commonly affected by long-term moisture exposure, timber decay, movement and deterioration around balcony edges and connections. Where the main balcony beam has deteriorated beyond repair, a full terrace beam replacement may be required to restore the structural integrity of the balcony.
